Review of Tivoli Model One Radio - Hunter/Maple - The Model One is the antithesis of complicated consumer electronics. No superfluous buttons, digital displays, or other bells and whistles detract from the sheer listening enjoyment. A classic design and attractive wood cabinet hark back to a time when products were honestly, tastefully and efficiently designed. Instead of a standard, off-the-shelf integrated circuit, the Model One uses a state-of-the-art, discrete-component FM tuner featuring GaAs MES-FET mixers. Originally developed for applications such as cell phones, this technology has never been applied to FM radios. The result is better reception with increased clarity on closely-spaced local and far-away stations. To take full advantage of the FM tuner's high sensitivity and selectivity, the Model One uses a precise analog tuning system with a geared-down tuning dial for accurate, easy selection of the maximum number of stations. A yellow LED glows brightest when the station is tuned properly.
