Roksan Artemiz Tonearm

Review of Roksan Artemiz Tonearm - With its intelligent counterweight principle the Roksan Artemiz tonearm utilises straightforward principles of physics which cleverly address some of the most important problems in tonearm design. In the Artemiz the bearings are offset from the armtube and the weight is pivoted and hangs free. This simple yet ingenious idea tackles several problems inherent with tonearm design. Most importantly the approach tackles the problem of a cartridge stylus riding a warp in a record. As the arm moves up to ride the warp the counterweight's centre of gravity is free to move away from the bearings thereby reducing the tracking force. It becomes easier for the record to move the arm upwards. As the stylus moves down the other side of the warp tracking force increases back to its normal level. This system allows the cartridge to track more accurately by placing less force on the stylus cantilever. This also removes the problem of vibrations being stored and retransmitted back down the armtube from the counterweight and reduces the lateral inertia that conventional counterweights exert over the arm.The Artemiz uses unique pyramidal bearings which provide low friction and allow for the rapid changes in direction and speed that a tonearm experiences. This tonearm has a one piece armtube and headshell formed from a single piece of aluminium alloy tube. Most tonearms are only as good as the glue which holds these parts together, but by machining the entire armtube from one piece alloy, ROKSAN can ensure that its first mode of resonance is significantly higher than that of most others and is measurably more rigid and hence more precise.Length 240mm. Overhang 17.5mm. Headshell offset angle 22.9 degrees effective mass <9g. Mounting baseplate diameter 22mm. Armboard thickness 7mm-26 mm. Recommended cartridge weight 5-14g. Recommended tracking force 1.6-3g.See all Roksan Hifi and Home Cinema Equipment
